Water is the main protagonist of this park located in the heart of the Pyrenees of Lleida and is the most genuine representation of the high mountains.
It is only by the majesty of its landscapes, its harmonious combination of lush forests and green meadows, by the richness of its flora and fauna-fir planted centuries-old black pine forests where the legendary bearded finds refuge, “for its waterfalls and pristine snowfields, but above all by the nearly 200 mountain lakes or lakes that houses its main trademark.
It lies between the rivers Noguera Noguera Pallaresa and Ribagorzana and comprises two valleys: the Sant Nicolau, accessed from the village of Boi, and the Written, with center Espot. The highest peak is the peak Comaloforno of 3033 m but the best known and is the symbol of the park Encantats massif, two immense blocks that rise up to 2747 m. opposite the Sant Maurici Lake.
The Aigüestortes or winding waters that are in the valley of Sant Nicolau are very large and constitute a paradigmatic place, so much so they’ve given name to the national park. In its surroundings are small towns with temples discovered in pure primal remarkably preserved Roman art and declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
